Asked about whether the alleged plot by Iran to kidnap a U.S. citizen would impact the Vienna talks, a U.S. diplomatic spokesperson underscored that “every challenge we face with Iran is made more difficult, made more intractable, when Iran’s nuclear program is uncontrolled, when it is unconstrained… As the Justice Department’s actions prove, we will continue to address the other challenges that we have in our relationship with Iran or in the context of the challenges and threats that Iran poses to the region and beyond”. The spokesperson also noted that “we do have a number of tools at our disposal, including the Khashoggi ban”.
