Speaking at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference, Secretary of State Antony Blinken maintained that “Iran remains on a path of nuclear escalation. Although it publicly claims to favor return to mutual compliance with the JCPOA, since March, Iran has been either unwilling or unable to accept a deal to achieve precisely that goal. Getting back to the JCPOA remains the best outcome – for the U.S., for Iran, for the world”. The same day, the U.S., UK and France jointly affirmed that “Iran must never develop a nuclear weapon”, calling on “Iran to return to full implementation of the JCPOA and UNSCR 2231 and to cooperate on an urgent basis with the IAEA”.
