Prime Minister Netanyahu told the Israeli cabinet that “we salute the Iranian citizens who are heroically fighting for their freedom… They are revealing to the entire world the true face of the oppressive regime in Tehran, a regime that threatens its citizens, the counties in the region and the entire world”. The following day, the premier asserted: “It’s time to close ranks between Israel and the U.S. – and others… I think there is more of a meeting of the minds today [on Iran] than there has ever been”. Relatedly, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan noted that “we’ve made clear that our priority right now is not the JCPOA… We continue to believe that, ultimately, diplomacy is the best way to do that in the right context, backed effectively by international unity and the necessary pressure to sharpen Iran’s choices”. “I think we [ie, Israel and the U.S.] share the same fundamental objectives”, he added. “And we will work through any differences we have on tactics the same way that we have over the course of the past two years”.
