U.S. Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley remarked that “we have been in contact with the Chinese authorities and will continue to take steps to sanction those who are involved in the import of Iranian oil”. Too, a U.S. diplomatic spokesperson reiterated that “we are regularly and robustly engaged with the day-to-day business of enforcing our sanctions… As Iran’s largest oil customer, the PRC remains a top focus for our sanctions enforcement. We regularly engage with the PRC and other countries to discourage them from taking steps vis-à-vis Iran that have the potential to undermine U.S. sanctions”.
