He previously provided consultancy services as stringer for the West Africa Project on prevailing Malian political and security issues. Based in Dakar, he researches and conducts fieldwork in Mali and Niger, and produces Crisis Group reports, briefings and other materials focusing primarily on the conflict and security challenges in Northern Sahel, as well as the stabilization issues within the Greater Sahel towards promoting peace, security and development.
