Mariano joined Crisis Group in February 2021. He is the main point of contact for advocacy on the political, social and economic situation in Latin America. His primary focus is the crisis in Venezuela. He also conducts research and drafts policy recommendations for relevant international organisations, governments, and legislative bodies.

Professional Background

Mariano has worked on political risk, foreign affairs and conflict resolution since 2014. As a lawyer specialised in international law, he represented investors in negotiations and contentious legal proceedings involving Latin American governments. He then became an analyst on Latin American legal reforms and politics for think tanks and consultancy groups in the United States. He is a regular source of insight on geopolitics for international media.

Previously, he worked as a corporate lawyer for international law firms in Caracas and Washington, DC, and completed a Masters degree in International Studies at Georgetown University.
